This amazing place is the Continental Divide. We climbed our way to the top (by car of course) one early August afternoon in 2014. Swerve, curve, twist, loop, turn, and up, up, up we went, until we were 12,000 feet above sea level, the highest we have ever been.
“Get yourself up on a high mountain, O Zion, bearer of good news, Lift up your voice mightily, O Jerusalem, bearer of good news; Lift it up, do not fear. Say to the cities of Judah, ‘Here is your God!’” Isaiah 40:9.
In days of old, when good news was to be proclaimed, the messenger often went to an elevated place, where he could be seen and heard. Here on the Continental Divide – at 12,000 feet in elevation – I was reminded that, as a follower of Christ, I have the best news of all! This news is worthy of being shouted from the highest of elevations. There is forgiveness for sin, and there is eternal life in Jesus Christ.
Just as Isaiah exhorted the people of God to proclaim Him to the world, we are urged to do the same. There is life, and there is hope, and it’s found in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
