The American desert is like nothing you’ve ever seen. Your expectations are blown to smithereens. If you go expecting to see a vast sandbox that stretches to the horizon, you’ll be surprised. Surprised at the variety and beauty you will see there.
One thing’s for sure- as awesome as it is, the desert is a lonely place. Sometimes life is like that – empty, desolate, lonely. Sometimes the decisions we make take us to the desert. Sometimes the decisions other people make lead us to the wilderness. Sometimes uncontrollable and unforeseen circumstances carry us to the wasteland.
“He found them in a desert land, in an empty, howling wasteland. He surrounded them and watched over them; He guarded them as he would guard his own eyes.” Deuteronomy 32:10.
Thankfully God doesn’t leave us there alone. He comes to the desert for us. When we’re all alone in the empty, howling wasteland, he surrounds us and watches over us. He guards us as carefully as He guards His own eye. I may not be able to avoid life’s deserts, but I don’t have to go through them alone.
