The Old Mission Peninsula cuts right through Michigan’s Grand Traverse Bay. On one side of this beautiful strip of land is East Traverse Bay, and on the other side is West Traverse Bay. The Peninsula is full of rolling hills, surrounded by water and covered by vineyards and orchards. Because of the unique climate here, produce thrives and provides a way of life for those who make this lovely place home.
“The land yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us.” Psalm 67:6.
God is the creator of the harvest, whether it is a harvest of food or a harvest of souls. At first glance, it is obvious that the writer of this Psalm is referring to the fruit of the plant, vine or tree. But scholars also suggest that this verse is referring to the future harvest of Gentile believers. In other words, us!
The verse goes on to proclaim the blessings of God. God is always blessing us, whether we are grateful or ungrateful, obedient or disobedient. His mercy and grace determine His blessings. The earth yields a harvest because of the goodness of God. At any moment, He could withdraw His blessing, and there would be no harvest- either of crops or of souls.
Thankfully, His mercies are new every morning. We have much to be thankful for. Do we recognize and appreciate Him for His constant blessings or do we go through the day with little thought of Him? Let’s be intentional today about giving thanks to God for His many blessings, whether they are physical or spiritual blessings.
