When I first saw a picture of Sleeping Bear Dunes, I could hardly believe it was in the US mainland, much less in the Midwest. Now I mean no disrespect to you heartlanders, but let’s face it. America’s gorgeous “fly-over country” often gets overlooked in the area of natural beauty bragging rights in favor of the more popular Southwest, Rocky Mountains, and Pacific Northwest. However, the Midwest is definitely a beautiful destination in its own right, and I look forward to seeing more of it in the future, God-willing.
Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore has amazing beauty and interesting history to explore, but my favorite feature is the 450 foot tall sand dunes towering above the glassiest, bluest water to be found. Beautiful hikes can lead you to the top, and we ventured up one when we visited in the fall of 2017. As we struggled to reach the top, and as we attempted to traverse a rather narrow and steep path, I was mesmerized by it all.
“He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; He causes me to stand on the heights.” Psalm 18:33.
How many times in my life have I seen God do this? Come to me in the midst of my struggle and give me feet like a deer. Pick me up from my feeble attempts and cause me to stand on the heights.
Because of the Lord, I am able to elude my enemies and do the work He has called me to do. I am able to face struggles and difficulties in life and see the Lord come through on my behalf. That’s how much He loves us! ❤️
