Mt. Hood is one of the most beautiful mountains I’ve ever seen. As the highest point in Oregon, it towers over every other summit in its vicinity and dominates the skyline near Portland.
When we visited the Pacific Northwest in 2015, one of my hopes was to photograph this mountain from an ideal vantage point. In reading about the area, we discovered Larch Mountain, a sparsely used, lovely, and very accessible hike which ends at an overlook where you can see almost 360 degrees and five volcanic peaks among the Cascade Mountain range, with Mt. Hood as the centerpiece.
“As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people both now and forevermore.” Psalm 125:2.
The picturesque language used here depicts the security we have in God. The mountains around Jerusalem provided a protective barrier on every side, just as the Lord surrounds us with His Presence, which is our safeguard. He encircles us with His love, mercy, grace, and wisdom like the mountains encircle a city. May we never cease to be mindful of and grateful for His abiding love.
