What can I say about Mt. Rainier National Park? Situated southeast of Seattle, Washington, it is one of the most majestic places I’ve ever been, full of the glory of our Creator. We got to visit in the summer of 2015 as part of a college graduation trip for our younger son. The mountains here aren’t gentle and welcoming like the Blue Ridge I call home. They are intimidating, a little foreboding, and awe-inspiring. They dare you to come closer, and if you do, you will be rewarded with hidden treasures: clear blue alpine lakes hiding in the forest, masses of colorful wildflowers dancing in the wind, diverse wildlife who are fed and cared for by God, and views for miles and miles that just take your breath away. I love to go where it’s wild and free, and where God’s creation stretches out before me endlessly. These are the places I dream of going, and when I do, it is a dream come true! “In His hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him.” Psalm 95:4. To think that all I see and infinitely more is in the hand of our mighty God is more than I could ever grasp. All creation points to Him and testifies that He is a God of power, majesty, beauty, order, and compassion, and that He is worthy to be praised.
