When we heard the first snowfall of the season was approaching Yellowstone as we were traveling that direction in September of 2016, we almost rerouted our road trip. But instead, we decided to be adventurous and forge on. I am so glad we did. Yellowstone in the snow was absolutely gorgeous. Even though it was colder than we had hoped, and we couldn’t see the majestic mountaintops and vast long-range views, there was unexpected beauty. Snow changes everything. It cleanses, purifies, and beautifies.
“‘Come now, let us settle the matter,’ says the LORD. ‘Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.'” Isaiah 1:18.
I love the way God, in His Word, often uses His creation, to describe, illustrate, or clarify truth. Here, He reveals that although our sins are as scarlet and as crimson, because of the sacrifice of Jesus, they shall be as white as snow and as wool. The guilt of our past sins, regrets, and mistakes is washed away by the cleansing work of Christ, just like the new snowfall cleared the atmosphere here in Yellowstone. I pray that you may know His cleansing power.
