One hundred and twenty steps is what it takes to be rewarded with this beautiful view of Lake Michigan. The water here is glorious- crystal clear and glassy. It seems to go on forever- to the horizon and beyond. The higher you go, the more of this sweeping view you can see.
“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14.
In the verses previous to this one, the prophet Habakkuk is warning of what is to come to the wicked, to those who think they can get away with living for themselves, treating others wrongly, with no regard for God. To those who spend their lives slaving away to acquire more and more.
Whatever trivial glory we may gain on this earth is in vain and slips through our fingers, leaving us empty. Man’s glory lasts for a moment, but God’s glory is eternal.
Scripture makes it clear that as deep and vast as the water covers the earth, God’s glory will be known on the earth. I don’t want to spend my life vainly working toward my own selfish agenda. I want to spend my life living for the glory of God.
