I’ll Give You Rest

4D613B7F-3421-4A5C-97CD-1052E4753DE1Do you carry burdens today? Do you need peace? Would you like to exchange your cares for rest?

This beautiful and peaceful scene greeted us on a lovely morning in September of 2017! It reminded us to stop rushing through the day and soak up the peace. This sweet little boardwalk just south of Petoskey, Michigan was brimming with beauty! Flowers were blooming everywhere. (By the way, Michiganders love their flowers!) There were pleasant hammocks overlooking the peaceful bay, fire pits surrounded by comfy Adirondack chairs along the beach, and then this perfect duo of rocking chairs among the fragrant blossoms. This is the ideal place to get away from the burdens of life for a while.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.

I love the compassion of Jesus. He knows us. He knows our weaknesses and our weariness and our struggles. He knows it because He experienced it. He isn’t an aloof, far-away God. He is not a God who is uncaring and unfamiliar with the hurts and pain of life. Instead, He knows our sorrows and has lived our grief. Even though He is God, absolutely worthy of our worship and praise, He chose the hard life- the one you and I live.

Have you been despised? Have you been rejected? Have you suffered or been in pain? You’re in good company. So has He. And He not only beckons you to come to Him, but also invites you to give Him your burdens in exchange for His rest. What an invitation! How could we resist such an honor?

I encourage you to get away from people and problems and spend some time alone with Jesus. He is waiting for you, and He promises that if you give Him your burdens, He will give you His rest.
