Deep in the heart of Texas, there’s a beautiful region called the Hill Country. It’s full of tree covered hills that turn a misty shade of blue when the light hits them just so. There are pastures where longhorns roam, cowboy towns famous for chicken fried steak, and friendly faces that make you feel right at home. This is the land of the western, and it seems like you might see John Wayne almost anytime.
In the middle of all this awesomeness is a very special place called Enchanted Rock. You can see it for miles before you ever get to it. The view from the top of the largest pink granite monadnock (isolated rock ridge) in the United States is what makes it so wonderful. Hill country in all its glory. Miles and miles of forever.
“David now stayed in the strongholds of the wilderness and in the hill country of Ziph. Saul hunted him day after day, but God didn’t let Saul find him.” 1 Samuel 23:14.
Sometimes we need to go to the hill country. David did, and there he found the safety and protection of the Lord. Though Saul looked for him every day, the Lord would not allow David to be found. Saul, with his myriad of resources and power, was rendered powerless by the hand of the Almighty.
You can be sure that God will protect His own. He is your hill country, and nothing touches you without His permission.
