When we visited Mount Rushmore in May of 2018, we had the privilege of seeing the first official lighting ceremony of the year. But even more magnificent than that was the night sky that fell over the beautiful monument, prior to its lighting, with the evening star as its focal point.
There is nothing as amazing as the sky on a clear night, with the stars so brilliant, it seems you could reach out and touch them. Even more mind boggling than that is the grace of God, who would give us so much undeserved abundance.
“Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.” Daniel 12:3.
God’s Word promises that those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens. This wisdom doesn’t refer to those who are wise in the ways of the world – in business or culture or even relationships. This is the kind of wisdom that is sensitive to spiritual things. It means I know I’m a sinner, I’m separated from God, and there’s nothing I can ever do to change that in and of myself. I can’t do enough good things, I can’t work hard enough, I can’t be kind enough.
But this wisdom also means that I am aware of the truth of Scripture. There is a God, the Creator of the world, who loves me, and He is the God of the Bible, the One and Only true God. This Bible tells me that He loves me and made a way for me to be forgiven through receiving Him as my Savior.
This is the wisdom that results in shining like the brightness of heaven. As I am changed by Christ, I desire to lead others to this life changing righteousness. Scripture says that those who do this will shine like the stars forever and ever. What a hopeful future we have in Christ! This is a life worth living!
